In a Perfect World
Just a thought...
Anti-Stuff
(December 2003)
I don’t need anything like that, he remarks.
I don’t care.
I won’t judge my existence by a figure or a count.
I don’t care.
Cause things will come and things will go.
And I don’t care.
What I need is care and trust.
The kind you forge through love not lust.
Things don’t make me happy.
Things don’t make my day.
But things can ruin a man.
In many countless ways.
When echoes of happiness lay dying on a shelf.
Because long ago the goal he made was self.
To obtain more in hopes of finding satisfaction.
When all it ushered in was clutter.
A useless growing collection.
(The world today is all about material possessions- the fat getting fatter. I absolutely loathe this, so I wrote the above statement- my equivalent of a pressure cooker top releasing steam. Posessions should never measure a soul, and we should never utilize accumulated “stuff” as a barometer for success and happiness. More is more, simply put, not better or better off. Our lives shall be measured by the love we give, the love we receive, and the bonds and friendships that we value. As per usual, I’m probably sounding like a perfect person, whom has no faults, but I assure you I’m not. This is just my “perfect world scenario” shining through. It derives from that “utopian thought factory” that we all posess in our souls.)

John Mayer Has a TV Show
yep, that's right... indeed! john mayer does have a television show, and yes it is so creatively named "john mayer has a tv show". it's shown over the vh1 airwaves, and although i don't know the set time for it's airing i believe it's a weekly type show during december- though i may be mistaken. i caught it the other night while channel flicking and was so drawn to it that i hope to catch it again in the future.
i know i know, you're probably thinking, "come on, john mayer is for the chicks, and he's just another teen heart-throb" and all that shit.... all of which i have a rebuttal for- john mayer's music is skilled and admirable, and he's a funny cat to boot. there's something about his music, of which even we men can see, that just speaks from that forgotten place hidden deep in the corner's of our heart and soul. it's one part comical, followed by seriousness. it's heartfelt, contrasted by cynicism; and poignent all the while being vague and thought provoking at the same time. having said all that, it's just easy to listen to his style and approach to musical storytelling- while straying from the dylan-esque meets allman brothers "rambling man" novel approach.
so, while steering clear of my own rambling man tendencies, i'll truncate this thought progression a bit and "quit while i'm ahead".
quite simply, ya just gotta love john mayer! and now ya gotta check out the tv show...

In My Own Mind
"I live in my own mind,
Ain't nothin but a good time" --Lyle Lovett
this song lyric is deeply representative of my own view of myself. i'm a thinker, but that doesn't mean i'm smart or intelligent necessarily. i'm observant and aware of my surroundings, but again it doesn't mean i have eyes and ears wrapped around my head at each successive degree. it's fun in my mind, it's entertaining and enlightening, it's dark and expressive too, but each day i'm able to create a "place" for me to reside and swirl around the goings on of this world and make sense of it all.
having said that, lately i haven't been able to grasp any sort of poignent topic or hyper entertaining bit of consciousness to write down here for all myself as well as anyone who may read this... thus the lapse in daily on-the-dot posts. it will come, time will tell, and "my own mind" will offer some form of spark somewhere down this tunnel of a road we call life... stay tuned...

Star Sixed... Unfortunately
Purchased another "unnecessary but necessary" item today- gotta love those! Dan dragged me to Newbury Comics (if you consider dragging as the correct verb) this evening, and for the first time in my abbreviated stay on this lovely planet, I did not know what I would purchase. Well, after long pause and consideration I came to the conclusion that I would do my boys from Somerville, MA a favor and buy their sendoff live CD. The band- Dispatch, the CD- All Points Bulletin. If you haven't been fortunate enough to know this band, I offer my regrets, as they are a solid representation of musical craft at its finest. Together for eight or so years, they've decided to call it quits (amicably) to pursue other (musical and unrelated) interests. Never signed to a major label, although many came calling, these three cats flew under the radar of most music radio and tv enterprises, not to mention music listeners nationwide. In an age where music is force fed and concocted in New York office buildings that scrape the sky, it is refreshing that this band stood the test of time; consistently putting out a quality heartfelt product while keeping true to their music, their fans, and most of all their own souls. I could go on for a while about why I am into their music and style, but I'll let you check 'em out and judge for yourself.
Recommended songs are: "Bats in the Belfry"; "Carry You"; "Walk With You"; "Small Change"; "Lightning"; "Flying Horses"; "Two Coins"; "Riddle"; "Bang Bang"; "The General"
